The most prevalent form of arthritis in children under the age of 16 is juvenile idiopathic arthritis, formerly known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Some kids may have symptoms for only a few months, while others may have symptoms for the rest of their lives, due to juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which can cause chronic joint pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Treatment focuses on reducing pain and inflammation, enhancing function, and avoiding joint damage in some types of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which can lead to serious complications like growth issues, joint damage, and eye inflammation.

Symptoms Of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis most frequently exhibits the following signs and symptoms:

Pain.

Swelling.

Stiffness.

Fever, swollen lymph nodes and rash.

Which type your child has depends on symptoms, the number of joints affected, and whether a fever and rashes are noticeable features. There are several different subtypes of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, but the main ones are systemic, oligoarticular, and polyarticular.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis exhibits flare-ups and disappearances of symptoms on occasion, just like other types of arthritis.

Causes of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Although the cause of juvenile idiopathic arthritis is unknown, both heredity and environment appear to play a role in the development of the condition. Certain gene mutations may make a person more susceptible to environmental factors, such as viruses, that may cause the disease.
