Homeopathy Medicine for Ranula
A ranula, also known as a fluid cyst in the mouth under the tongue, develops when saliva (spit) leaks from a damaged salivary gland.
Saliva is produced by salivary glands, which are tiny structures located around the mouth. When a salivary gland is damaged, saliva leaks into the tissues nearby and forms a cyst or bubble, which is known as a ranula.
A plunging ranula is one that descends into the neck beneath the mouth as opposed to a simple ranula, which remains in the mouth beneath the tongue.
CAUSES OF RANULA
In order for saliva to reach the mouth where it can be swallowed, three salivary glands—the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands—must be functioning properly. If one of these glands—typically the sublingual gland—is injured or ill, saliva leaks out of the affected area and forms a bubble of fluid in the tissue surrounding the gland that is known as a ranula.
SYMPTOMS OF RANULA
- a growth that is translucent and clear or blue-green.
- Under the tongue or chin, it typically appears as a painless, soft swelling of 2-3 inches in diameter.
- On occasion, swelling contains fluid buildup.
- It slowly expands until it is found.
- The sublingual gland only swells in simple ranula.
DIAGNOSIS OF RANULA
Physical examination by a doctor can help make a diagnosis, but specialized radiology tests, such as the following, are frequently used as well:
- Ultrasound
- Computed Tomography (CT Scan)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
